Weeki Wachee, Fla. – NJoy Spirits Distillery, Hernando County’s very own family distillery located in Weeki Wachee, won three new international awards. Not only did the husband and wife duo win gold medals at the world famous San Francisco International Spirits Competition for both their Mermaid Rum and Wild Buck Whiskey, out of nearly 2,000 entries―they were the only distillery in Florida to win two golds for their featured spirits. Additionally, the distillery received a Best in Class “Aged Rum” gold medal for Mermaid Rum at the prestigious American Distilling Institutes (ADI) Spirits Competition in San Diego, beating out nearly 1,000 top brand entries. ADI is internationally known as the voice of craft distilling and its spirit competition is considered a top award to win.
“The key to our success is the attention to detail and the freshness of our rye grain,” owners Kevin and Natalie Goff explained. “From growing a portion of the rye grain on our farm to using twice filtered rainwater then aging in new barrels for 10-15 months in the Florida sunshine—the whiskey is smooth and like no other,” Kevin Goff said.
The Goff’s newest spirit, Mermaid Rum, is a three-year-old Florida sugar cane juice, blended with a Caribbean pot still rum and aged in once used whiskey barrels for 90 days. This gold sipping rum is incredibly smooth and may be enjoyed neat over ice or in a favorite cocktail.
NJoy Spirits Distillery has recently expanded distribution into the state of Georgia. Many Florida liquor stores carry both Mermaid Rum and Wild Buck Whiskey. Nearby stores include Weeki Wachee Liquors, Glen Lakes Liquors, Beer Frog, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Total Wines & More and B 21 to name a few.
Whiskey Advocate magazine has rated Wild Buck Whiskey as one of the top craft whiskeys in the nation. Wild Buck is now the feature whiskey at fine restaurants and bars including
The Edison, Bern’s Steakhouse, Haven, Elevage, Renaissance Vinoy, Ritz Carlton, Hyatt Regency, Marriott Waterside Tampa, Swan & Dolphin Disney, Waldorf Astoria etc. These establishments feature classic cocktail menus featuring both Wild Buck Whiskey and Mermaid Rum.
Local restaurants such as Brian’s Place, Papa Joes Italian Restaurant and Bonefish Grill also carry both products and have created feature drinks to complement their fresh creative cuisine.
Hooters has also teamed up with NJoy Spirits Distillery and now features the Mermaid Kiss and the Treasure Chest, exclusively available at the Spring Hill location.
NJoy Spirits Distillery will host open houses later this year for large groups; advanced reservations will be required. Patrons will be able to purchase two bottles of each spirit per year directly at the distillery.
