Brooksville, Fla. – There is no record of a open permit for a major road project underway north of Brooksville at FDOT.
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Seven office spokesperson said the Yontz Road extension project is not listed as an active road construction project in Hernando County. The new road project is located south of the Dollar General Store on US 41 N.
The FDOT spokesperson confirmed a permit would be necessary to extend Yontz Road through to US 41. All intersection improvements on U.S. Route 41 (SR 41) are governed by FDOT. “Hernando County Public Works governs only the new intersection of Yontz Road at Howell Avenue, not at US 41,” she said.
Jeremy O’Dell, spokesperson for Hernando County Department of Public Works confirmed construction plans to build the Yontz Rd. extension.
Dollar General’s driveway is approximately 100 yards from new intersection for Yontz Road extension at US 41. FDOT District spokesperson referred further questioning about intersection improvements at US 41 to Traffic Operations Chief Mark Hall. Hall did not return phone calls for information.
“No traffic signals are planned for US 41 at the intersection of Yontz Road,” O’Dell said. “But the sight will be revisited if it warrants it in the future.”
