Brooksville, Fla. – Road construction is underway to build a shortcut between two major roads south of Brooksville.
Hernando County Public Works started road construction to expand Yontz Road through to US 41. The roadway cut begins at Howell Avenue and continues to US41, just south of Dollar General store.
Jeremy O’Dell, spokesperson for Hernando County Department of Public Works confirmed construction plans to build the Yontz Rd. extension.
“No traffic signals are planned for US 41 at the intersection of Yontz Road,” O’Dell said. “But the sight will be revisited if it warrants it in the future.”
Hernando County has several intersections with a fatality history. Traffic beacons were installed at the intersections of Lake Lindsay Rd. and US41 and the intersection of Lake Lindsay Rd. and US98 after fatalities occurred several years ago.
“Plans are still in the works for improvements at Lake Lindsay Rd. and US41 to realign the intersection that continues to be hazardous,” O’Dell said. “There are no plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection at this time,”
